KABUL, May 5 (NNN-BNA) – At least two people have been killed and three others injured, after flash floods caused by heavy rains in northern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, a local official reported, yesterday.

Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods on the outskirts of the province’s Jorm district. Provincial director for the disaster management authority, Mawlawi Mohammad Akram Akbari, confirmed that two local residents have died, and three others were injured, following the floods.

According to the official, the natural disaster has washed away 279 acres of farmland, three km of rural roads, several residential houses, and water canals in the said district.

Survey teams have been dispatched to the Baharak, Wardoj and Yamgan districts of the province, to assess the damage caused by the flash floods, Akbari explained.

Since Saturday, most parts of Afghanistan have experienced scattered rain. The country’s meteorological department has forecasted intermittent rain, and warned of flooding in 20 out of the 34 provinces.– NNN-BNA
