Three Killed In Flooding In West Indonesia’s Lampung

JAKARTA, Apr 21 (NNN-ANTARA) – Flooding, triggered by heavy rains, killed three people in Indonesia’s western province of Lampung, according to the province’s disaster mitigation agency, today.

Wahyu Hidayat, spokesman for the agency, told local media that, a joint rescue team evacuated the three victims and transported them to nearby hospitals for further identification.

Torrential rains have reportedly been lashing the provincial capital, Bandar Lampung, since early today, submerging houses and public facilities in some areas.

He said that, the extent of damage to houses and public facilities remains unknown, and rescuers are currently prioritising evacuation and aid efforts for affected residents.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant. The rainfall is still affecting the city with moderate intensity,” he said.

Earlier, Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency, estimated that the rainy season across the archipelago ended last month, with the transition to the dry season expected this month.- NNN-ANTARA
