BISHKEK, Apr 19 (NNN-KNA) – The Ak Ilbirs (Snow Leopard in Kyrgyz) ecological corridor, has been created in the Issyk-Kul region of eastern Kyrgyzstan, the country’s Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision reported, yesterday.
The ecological corridor covers vast natural areas and aims to preserve biodiversity and protect rare species of animals and plants. It connects several protected natural sites, including the Khan-Tengri State Nature Park, the Sarychat-Ertash Nature Reserve, and the Naryn Nature Reserve, with a total area of more than 792,000 hectares.
The main goals of the corridor include preserving populations of wild animals, including the snow leopard, protecting ecosystems and conserving rare species of flora and fauna.
Strict restrictions have been imposed on several activities within the corridor, such as the introduction of non-native plants and animals, the use of pesticides, the disposal of radioactive waste, and any actions that may negatively impact the ecosystem. At the same time, activities aimed at improving the living conditions of wild animals and plants are permitted. These include scientific research, forest management in accordance with the law, reforestation and population control of certain animal species.
The creation of the Ak Ilbirs ecological corridor is an important step towards the sustainable management of natural resources and environmental protection in the region, the report said.– NNN-KNA
