Cambodia Sees 115,090 Foreign Tourists During Traditional New Year

PHNOM PENH, Apr 18 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia recorded a total of 115,090 foreign tourists travelling across the country, during its three-day traditional New Year holiday, said a Ministry of Tourism report, released yesterday.

“During the New Year celebrations, from Apr 14 to 16, a total of 115,090 foreign holidaymakers had travelled throughout the country,” the report said.

The five most attractive destinations for foreign tourists are Phnom Penh capital city, Pailin and Banteay Meanchey provinces, on the border with Thailand, Siem Reap cultural province, and Preah Sihanouk coastal province.

For domestic tourists, the report said, almost all of the population had travelled to various tourist destinations across the country.

“Overall, security, safety and public order had been maintained well, during the New Year holiday,” Tourism Minister, Huot Hak, said, in the report.

He said, hotels and tourist accommodation services, restaurants, and tourist resorts in almost every province have received almost 100 percent of guests.

“The private sector is happy and has shown high optimism for the development of Cambodia’s tourism sector,” Hak said.

The traditional New Year is the largest annual holiday in Cambodia. On the occasion, revelers participate in religious ceremonies, visit their families in their home provinces, and go to different tourist attractions for leisure.– NNN-AKP
