5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Jolted East Afghanistan

KABUL, Apr 16 (NNN-BNA) – A 5.6 magnitude earthquake jolted eastern Afghanistan’s Nuristan province this morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake hit Parun City, the provincial capital of Nuristan province, at 3:43 a.m. local time, with the epicentre located at 35.95 degrees north latitude, and 70.56 degrees east longitude, and at a depth of 99 km.

Nuristan is a remote and mountainous province that shares a border with Pakistan. Due to restricted access to the internet and telecommunications, there have been no reports on the casualties and damages resulting from this disaster.– NNN-BNA
