YANGON, Feb 15 (NNN-MNA) – Authorities arrested 29 suspects in eastern Myanmar’s Tachileik township, for illegal online gambling and financial fraud on Feb 12 and Feb 13, according to a statement from the State Administration Council’s Information Team, late yesterday.
The group included seven Thai nationals and 22 Myanmar nationals. Along with the suspects, officials seized 440 computers, 390 mobile phones, two undocumented vehicles, and drug-related items, the statement said.
According to the suspects, the Thai nationals had entered Myanmar via the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 1, for work and travel. They were later recruited by individuals involved in illegal online gambling and financial fraud, it said.
Authorities are taking necessary security measures, to quickly apprehend other suspects involved. The arrested individuals will be prosecuted according to the law, it added.– NNN-MNA
