African swine fever cases detected in Albania

TIRANA, Dec 28 (NNN-XINHUA) — Albania’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that new cases of African swine fever have been found in the country.

They were detected in Ishull-Lezhe in the municipality of Lezhe, and 15 dead pigs were identified and buried to avoid further spread.

Assisted by law enforcement entities, the ministry has put the area under veterinary supervision and banned trading of live pigs there.

The site of the cases is within a surveillance zone of an earlier outbreak on Nov 29. The zone was released from isolation on Dec 16 after no new cases had been found. — NNN-XINHUA
