Yemeni FM Submits Resignation To President, Awaits Approval

ADEN, Yemen, June 11 (NNN-SABA) – Yemeni Foreign Minister, Khaled Yamani, has submitted his resignation to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, a source said.

However, Hadi has not yet decided whether to accept Yamani’s quit, the Aden-based source said.

The decision on Yamani’s resignation “will be discussed by the country’s presidency office in the upcoming hours,” he added.

The source attributed Yamani’s resignation to his “failure to implement the Stockholm Peace Agreement,” as the agreement signed by “Yamani as the country’s foreign minister gave the Houthis a way to dodge.”

Meanwhile, the Saudi-owned Arabiya TV said, Yamani presented his resignation letter on Sunday.

There is yet no official confirmation from the Saudi-backed Yemeni government or the foreign minister’s office.

Yamani headed the negotiating team of the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, during the UN-sponsored peace talks with the Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Stockholm last year.

He assumed his post of Yemen’s diplomatic chief after serving as the country’s permanent UN representative for years.

Yamani’s decision to resign comes on the eve of an expected visit by UN Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo to Saudi Arabia, for talks with President Hadi and Saudi officials.– NNN-SABA
