Mongolia To Host Reindeer Festival To Attract Tourists

ULAN BATOR, Mongolia, June 9 (NNN-MONGOLIA WEB) – Mongolia will hold an annual reindeer festival, on July 6-7, at Dalai Tour tourist camp, located on the West shore of Khuvsgul lake, the Governor’s Office of Khuvsgul Aimag said, on Saturday.

The festival is aimed at promoting the unique culture of reindeer, protecting the animal and attracting both domestic and foreign tourists to the provincial capital of Mongolia’s northernmost province, Khuvsgul well-known as “Mongolian Switzerland.”

The two-day event includes an art exhibition, showcases of relevant handicrafts and the dwelling of reindeer herders, a reindeer relay competition and mini Naadam festival.

According to the country’s National Statistics Office, the reindeer population in Mongolia reached 2,396 at the end of 2018, increasing by 167 heads compared to the previous year.

Mongolia has set a goal of hosting one million foreign tourists and earning one billion U.S. dollars in tourism in 2020.– NNN-MONGOLIA WEB
