120 Killed As Flash Floods Lashed Two Afghan Provinces

KABUL, May 20 (NNN-ANA) – At least 120 were killed, due to heavy rains and flash floods, in Afghanistan’s northern Faryab province and western Ghor province, on Friday and Saturday, local officials said.

At least 47 people were killed by flash floods on Saturday night in Faryab province, said Shamsuddin Mohammadi, provincial director of culture and information. Another official in the province reported 18 deaths in the province during the daytime on the same day.

The natural accident took place in the province’s Belcharagh, Chehalgazi and Qarghan districts, according to Mohammadi. The number of victims may increase, he said.

Meanwhile, the death toll from floods on Friday and Saturday in Ghor province has risen to 55, Abdul Wahid Hamas, spokesperson of Ghor’s governor said yesterday.– NNN-ANA
