Southeast Asia Sees 6.3 Billion U.S. Dollars In Private Green Investment In 2023: Report

SINGAPORE, Apr 16 (NNN-XINHUA) – Green investment from private sectors increased to 6.3 billion U.S. dollars in Southeast Asia last year, from 5.2 billion in 2022, according to Southeast Asia’s Green Economy 2024 Report, issued yesterday.

Public and private sources from Southeast Asia have contributed 45 billion dollars by 2023, remaining far short of the 1.5 trillion dollars needed to fund green transition by 2030, the report noted.

It showed several ways to boost green investment, such as developing internationally aligned domestic carbon markets, encouraging innovative finance tools, cultivating talent to identify green business opportunities, and promoting public-private investment in grid infrastructure.

The green economy, when fully unlocked, can generate annual revenues of 300 billion dollars in Southeast Asia by 2030, according to the report.

The report also issued the Green Economy Index to evaluate the decarbonisation progress of Southeast Asian countries, with Singapore topping the list.

The report was created by Bain & Company, GenZero, Standard Chartered Bank, and Temasek.– NNN-XINHUA
