ISLAMABAD, Apr 11 (NNN-APP) – At least 17 people were killed and around 35 others injured, in a truck crash in Hub district of Pakistan’s south-west Balochistan province, the local rescue service confirmed this morning.

The accident took place late last night, when a truck carrying religious pilgrims fell into a ditch, in Ghulam Hussain Chatta area in the district, Abdul Hakeem, a local representative of Edhi rescue organisation, said.

The incident happened due to over-speeding as the driver lost control of the vehicle, he added.

Upon receiving the information, rescue workers reached the site and shifted the victims to a local hospital, the rescue service reported, adding that, they were later taken to the southern port city of Karachi for further treatment.

Reportedly, the pilgrims were going to a shrine in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district, from Thatta district of southern Sindh province.

Road accidents frequently happen in Pakistan, mainly due to poorly maintained vehicles, dilapidated roads and negligence of road safety measures.– NNN-APP
