ASEAN-South Korea Dialogue Welcomes Strategic Partnership Proposal

JAKARTA, April 5 (Bernama) — The 28th ASEAN-South Korea Dialogue welcomed South Korea’s proposal to elevate the relationship to an ASEAN-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

Senior officials at the dialogue, held in Seoul on Thursday, believed the proposal would reflect the strength and scope of the partnership.

Both sides also welcomed the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN-South Korea Dialogue Relations this year, according to the ASEAN Secretariat in a statement.

Senior officials stressed the need to improve cooperation across sectors, such as trade and investment via free trade area, digital innovation, cybersecurity, clean energy, and sustainable development.

Other areas of focus included TVET, education, disaster management, environment and climate change, smart cities, connectivity, culture, people-to-people exchanges, and capacity building.

The meeting also highlighted the significance of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) as a guiding framework for broader regional cooperation.

Both sides agreed to enhance practical cooperation in priority areas under the AOIP, such as maritime cooperation, connectivity, and sustainable development goals, in line with the Joint Statement on Cooperation on the AOIP adopted at the 24th ASEAN-South Korea Summit last year.
