Kyrgyz Capital Declares Emergency Situation Due To Strong Winds

BISHKEK, Mac 29 (NNN-KNA) – An emergency situation declared yesterday in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, due to strong winds. The corresponding resolution was signed by Bishkek Mayor, Aibek Dzhunushaliev.

The capital city’s press service said that, according to the resolution, when a wind gust exceeds 25 metres per second, an emergency situation is declared.

A squally wind in Bishkek and the Chui region last night, knocked down trees and demolished roofs of buildings, including social facilities. In addition, power lines and trolleybus lines were damaged in the capital city.

According to preliminary data, two people were injured – a teenager and a woman.

In this connection, under the chairmanship of Mayor Dzhunushaliev, a visiting meeting of the emergency headquarters was held on the territory of school No. 62 in Bishkek, which was damaged by heavy winds.

Mobile groups from among district administrations, municipal inspectorates and utility services have been organised, to inspect the territories and identify the consequences, as well as, potentially dangerous areas – hanging fragments of roofs, air conditioners and large branches, the report said.
