Thailand Welcomes Adoption Of UNSC Resolution In Gaza

BANGKOK, March 27 (Bernama) — Thailand welcomes the adoption of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution which called for an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan in Gaza, said a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wednesday.

“During this holy month of Ramadan, Thailand firmly believes that it is imperative for all parties involved to comply with this resolution in its call for the alleviation of human suffering and the safe return of all remaining hostages, including the Thai nationals.

“This resolution is a major step forward, which Thailand sincerely hopes will set the path towards a lasting ceasefire, a return to negotiations and an enduring peace on the basis of the two-state solution,” said the ministry.

The UNSC on Monday passed a resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which began on March 11 and is set to end on April 9.

As many as 14 countries voted in favour of the resolution, presented by 10 elected members of the council, while the US abstained from voting.

The resolution called for an “immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan to be respected by all parties leading to a lasting sustainable ceasefire”.

It also demanded the “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as ensuring humanitarian access to address their medical and other humanitarian needs”.
