Peru: Pres Boluarte announces creation of Transnational Crime Investigation Unit

LIMA, March 24 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte announced the creation of the Transnational Crime Investigation Unit, as part of her firm fight against delinquency and organized crime.

Said unit will consist of 300 elite troops and will be provided with exceptional resources to confront and dismantle foreign mafias that threaten the population’s peace of mind.

Moreover, it will work closely with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which will be in charge of training its agents.

Boluarte announced the formation of the unit during a work meeting with representatives of business associations and unions at the Government Palace in Lima.

At the meeting, the Head of State reported that more than 5,190 police graduates have joined street patrols nationwide this year.

Furthermore, she disclosed that 500 vehicles have been delivered to the National Police to patrol the streets of Lima and Callao.

Additionally, another 268 units have been given to the police in 17 regions in order to enhance surveillance. — NNN-ANDINA
