Argentina: Pilots announce 48-hour strike on March 28

BURNOS AIRES, March 17 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Airline Pilots Association (APLA) and the Airline Aeronavegantes Association (AAA) of Argentina announced a 48-hour national strike starting Thursday, March 28, the newspaper Página 12 announced.

According to the newspaper, the strike coincides with the Easter holidays, a period of high tourist activity in this nation.

The two organizations stated that the protest action would take place due to the lack of progress in negotiations between employers and workers to obtain wage increases and improvements in working conditions.

APLA and AAA held a strike for the same reasons on Feb 28.

The entities criticized the lack of response from the authorities and pointed out that salaries are more than 80 percent behind inflation.

In this sense, APLA expressed its concern about the drop in the purchasing power of the sector’s workers and the absence of concrete solutions.

It also stated that the purpose of announcing the protest in advance is to minimize the impact on passengers. On the other hand, the AAA denounced that in only three months the value of salaries has collapsed and called for an urgent recomposition of the same, which the Government refuses to do. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
