Malaysia’s Total Approved Investment Up 23 Percent Last Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia recorded a total approved investment of 329.5 billion ringgit (68.98 billion U.S. dollars) in 2023, up 23 percent from 2022, according to an official statement, yesterday.

Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, said in the statement that, the amount is the highest approved investment in the country’s history.

Of the total investment, foreign investment is the main contributor at 57.2 percent, compared to domestic investment at 42.8 percent.

“This excellent performance is supported by an increase of 35.1 percent for domestic investment and 15.3 percent for foreign investment,” Anwar said.

According to the statement, the total approved investment involves 5,101 projects and potentially creates over 127,000 new jobs for the country.

The service sector recorded the highest investment by contributing 51.1 percent of the total approved investment, at 168.4 billion ringgit, and was followed by the manufacturing sector, recording 46.1 percent, or 152 billion ringgit, and 9.1 billion ringgit, or 2.8 percent, from the primary industries.
