Syrian Army Denies Using Chemical Weapons In Latakia

DAMASCUS, Syria, May 20 (NNN-SANA) – The Syrian army denied, on Sunday, the rebels’ claims that chemical weapons were used in the countryside of Latakia Province, in north-western Syria.

The army did not use chemical weapons in the town of Kabani in Latakia countryside, the army said in a statement.

The rebels were fabricating news after every defeat they suffer, it added.

Meanwhile, the army also highlighted its determination to continue to fight terrorism and eradicate the terrorist groups from Syria.

The Syrian army and the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the umbrella group of the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, are fighting in the countryside of Latakia and the nearby areas in the countryside of the provinces of Hama and Idlib.

A day earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said, a brief truce went into effect in the aforementioned areas, which are included in the deescalation zones’ deal, established in Sept, 2018, by Russia and Turkey.

However, the deal didn’t materialise and battles have escalated since late last month.– NNN-SANA
