NEW DELHI, Dec 27 (NNN-Bernama) — Around 100 Nepalese citizens serving in the Russian army are missing or injured in fighting with Ukraine.

It is believed that about 200 Nepalese who went to Russia for work, study or travel purposes later joined the army and Nepal has raised the matter with the Russian government.

“The Russian government passed on the information that some Nepali citizens have joined its army and seven of them have been killed. Apart from this, the ministry has received complaints that around 100 Nepalis are missing and injured,” Nepal’s Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud was quoted as saying by Nepalese media on Tuesday.

Nepal recently arrested a gang reportedly involved in signing up people as mercenaries for Russia.

A Ukrainian official in October posted a video on social media of a captured Nepalese man, who admitted joining the war because he needed money.

“My family is in trouble. My mother doesn’t work, we need money,” the man said in the video.
