5.5-Magnitude Quake Strikes Off Amami-Oshima Island In Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture

TOKYO, Japan, May 15 (NNN-NHK) – An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5, struck off the north-east coast of Amami-Oshima Island, in Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture, the weather agency here said today (Wednesday).

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the temblor struck at 2:34 local time, at a latitude of 29.7 degrees north and longitude of 130.7 degrees east.

The quake occurred at a depth of 30 km, the JMA said.– NNN-NHK
