Malaysia’s Latest Index Shows Modest Growth Outlook Ahead

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s leading Index fell 0.2 percent in Oct, signalling a modest growth outlook ahead, official data showed, yesterday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), said in a statement that, the decline was due to the contraction in the real imports of semiconductor (-33.6 percent), which demonstrated negative growth for 10 consecutive months.

Looking at the monthly performance, the decline in leading index narrowed to negative 0.2 percent as against a negative 0.3 percent in the previous month.

In view of the current economic situation, the coincident index continued its positive growth since Sept, 2021, rising by 2.9 percent as compared to the previous year.

Simultaneously, the coincident index monthly change, registered an increase of 0.3 percent, supported by all components, except the volume index of retail trade.– NNN-BERNAMA
