PUTRAJAYA, May 10 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has agreed to the establishment of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), after earlier objections to it.

The agreement followed the latest meeting held today between the PDRM and the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC).

Speaking at a press conference following the meeting today, GIACC’s Director General Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed said many of the concerns raised by the police had been cleared during the meeting.

Newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador as well as senior police officers were at the meeting, which was also attended by representatives from the Attorney General office and the Malaysian Bar Council.

“In principle, there are no objections and support has been given to the government to set up the IPCMC,” said Abu Kassim.

However, there are still several areas that will require more detailed discussion with the PDRM before a paper on the setting up of the IPCMC can be drawn up for the Cabinet’s approval, he added.
