Malaysia saw high tourism receipts in 2018 despite reduced tourist arrivals

SINGAPORE, May 10 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia recorded higher tourism receipts worth RM84.1 billion in 2018, an increase of two per cent from 2017.

According to Maybank Investment Bank Bhd Reseach (Maybank IB Research), the 2018 tourism receipts per capita also hit a record high of RM3,300, a three per cent growth from the previous year.

“The above is thanks to the weaker ringgit and partially due to more Chinese visitors of whom average Chinese visitor to Malaysia spends MYR4,200, more than any other major source of visitors,” Maybank IB Research said in its 2019 ASEAN Tourism Report released here, today.
