Bangladesh Dengue Death Toll Nears 1,100

DHAKA, Oct 11 (NNN-BSS) – The death toll from dengue fever in Bangladesh, so far this year, is nearing the 1,100 mark, amid the worst outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease.

The Bangladeshi government confirmed another 10 deaths from dengue fever, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country since Jan to 1,096.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), under the Ministry of Health, the deaths include 107, so far, this month, 396 in Sept, 342 in Aug, and 204 in July.

From Oct 1 to Oct 9, 22,818 more dengue cases were recorded, after 79,598 people were infected last month, according to DGHS.

A total of 2,660 fresh dengue cases, including 649 in Dhaka, were reported in the 24 hours till 8:00 a.m. local time Monday, DGHS data showed.

The total number of dengue fever cases reported since the start of Jan reached 226,224.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease, caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash.– NNN-BSS
