A Magnitude-5.9 Earthquake Struck Off Central Indonesia

JAKARTA, Sept 1 (NNN-ANTARA) – A 5.9-magnitude earthquake jolted East Nusa Tenggara province, in central Indonesia yesterday, the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The earthquake occurred at 17:29 p.m. Jakarta time (1029 GMT), with its epicentre located at 37 km north-east of Kupang district, and a depth of 80 km underground, the agency said.

The tremors of the earthquake did not trigger giant waves, the agency said.

The agency had first released the quake at 6.2 Richter scale before revising it.– NNN-ANTARA
