NEW DELHI, Jul 21 (NNN-PTI) – The Indian government said yesterday, the country’s nuclear power capacity was set to increase from 7,480 MW to 22,480 MW by 2031.

Jitendra Singh, India’s minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, said, the present nuclear power capacity is set to increase “on progressive completion of projects under construction and accorded sanction.”

Singh, who is also the junior minister in charge of the department of atomic energy, said, the government “has also accorded in-principle approval for new sites to set up nuclear reactors in the future.”

Singh said, nuclear power reactors generated 46,982 million units of electricity in 2022-23, with a share of 2.8 percent of India’s total electricity generation, during the same period.– NNN-PTI
