MONTEVIDEO, July 16 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — More than 300 homeless people took refuge during the early hours of the morning in shelters of the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) in Uruguay to protect themselves from the extreme cold temperatures, MIDES released the information, adding that other 54 homeless people were picked up on the streets as part of Operation Winter.
“One hundred percent response was given and there were quotas available,” MIDES said in an official statement.
However, according to the Subrayado newspaper, a 43-year-old man died of hypothermia in the city of Melo, Cerro Largo department (central-east).
