Jokowi Leads Prabowo By 9.6 Mln Votes

JAKARTA, April 29 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Indonesian President Joko Widodo who is defending his post in the 2019 Presidential Election is now comfortably ahead of his nearest challenger, Prabowo Subianto by 9.6 million votes after the counting of votes reached 50.5 per cent.

Political observers saw the majority vote received by Jokowi at this stage as not a problem for the incumbent to defend his Indonesian President post for the 2019 – 2024 term.

According to the real count or counting via the General Elections Commission (KPU) officiate website, Jokowi and running mate, Ma’aruf Amin, 76, for the vice-president post, obtained 56.24 per cent (43,436,826 votes) compared to Prabowo, 67, and teammate, Sandiaga Uno, 49, who obtained 43.76 per cent (33,794,744 votes).

The percentage is based on vote counting at 411,409 polling centres (TPS) from a total of 813, 350 TPS.

On April 17, 77.5 per cent of 192,828,520 eligible voters turned out to cast their ballots in the Indonesian General Election (Pemilu 2019). Vote counting for Pemilu 2019 is expected to be completed by May 22.
