KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Human Resource Minister M. Kula Segaran will lead the Malaysian delegation to the Special Session of the ASEAN Labour Ministers and Singapore Conference on Future of Work which will be held in Singapore Monday (April 29).
The Human Resource Ministry in a statement Sunday said Kula Segaran is scheduled to chair the session and take part as one of the panels during the conference.
“Kula Segaran is expected to speak on the role of tripartism and how it relates to social protection, the universal Labour Guarantee and collective representation.
“The minister is chairing the Special Session of the ASEAN Labour Ministers in his capacity as the present chair of the ASEAN Labour Minister’s Meeting,” it said.
Both the special session and the conference are expected to bring together over 100 delegates consisting of Labour Ministers and officials from ASEAN member states, such as Australia, China, India, Japan, Mongolia as well as captains of industry and academicians, it said.
“The special session will also see the signing of an ASEAN Labour Ministers Statement on the Future of Work for the ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Special Session,” said the statement.
During the visit, Kula Segaran will also pay a courtesy call to Singapore’s Manpower Minister Josephine Teo and to be briefed on the management of foreign workers, as well as on occupational safety and health at workplace by the ministry’s senior officials.
“The minister is also expected to be briefed on human resources development, in particular on programmes related to skills upgrading of employees in line with the fourth Industrial Revolution by the Skills Development Fund,” it said.
Besides paying a courtesy call on his Singaporean counterpart, Kula Segaran is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director-General Guy Ryder and Dr Awang Abu Bakar Apong from Brunei Darussalam.
The Human Resources Ministry’s Secretary-General Amir Omar, officers, senior officials and Malaysian High Commission in Singapore will also be present.
