Mozambique imposes beach curfew to combat crime
All beaches in Maputo will be closed after 7:00 pm

MAPUTO, May 24 (NNN-GNA) — The city authorities of Maputo, Mozambique’s capital have announced a curfew on all the beaches in the city between 7 pm and 5 am to combat crime.

A municipal director of tourism, Leonel Matsumane stated that to hold an activity or ceremony on the beach in the evening, one would have to obtain permission to do so.

He also added that the popular venue for parties and sporting activities, Costa do Sol Beach will have a dedicated police patrol to aid in making sure compliance with the directive.

Maputo has seen an increase in rape and murder cases often on beaches and at night, hence this countermeasure. — NNN-GNA
