LIMA, May 5 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte announced that the Peruvian city of Cusco will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in 2024.

During her participation at the Regional State Council, which was inaugurated on Thursday morning, she stated that this is one of the wonderful and important events set to take place in Peru next year.

“We will hold APEC 2024 (…). Mr. Regional Governor (Werner Salcedo), let me announce that, in coordination with the Prime Minister and State Ministers, we will hold APEC in Cusco, so that from there we can tell the world that Peru is present, she remarked.

As is known, in early 2022, Peru was officially selected as the economy that will take up the Presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in 2024.

This is an opportunity for the country to consolidate its international project in the most innovative, dynamic, and fastest-growing region in the world.

At another time, in response to what was stated by regional governors, the Head of State pointed out that the reform of the State Procurement Law (Law No. 30225) will be proposed to Congress to expedite the process and avoid delays in the implementation of works in different regions.

“Sometimes there are unverified claims that regional governments perpetrate acts of corruption when the Procurement Law does not help you (governors) to have a more agile administration; therefore, we will propose to Congress a reform of the Procurement Law in a few days, so that it can be more agile and you can work,” Boluarte said.

Moreover, the president announced that Con Punche Huancavelica will be launched in May, adding that Economy-Finance Minister Alex Contreras will be in charge of providing the details of the budget to be allocated to said region.

MEANWHILE, visiting Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi affirmed that his country will offer full support to Peru when the latter holds the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum presidency in 2024.

“I affirmed (to Peruvian President Dina Boluarte and to Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi) the full willingness of my country to support Peru, which will preside over APEC next year,” he said during a joint statement along with his Peruvian peer at Torre Tagle Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

I told President Boluarte and Foreign Affairs Minister Gervasi that I highly appreciate (the fact) that Peru promotes a diplomatic policy focused on international coordination, as well as a free and open economic policy, including the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership),” he indicated.

Among other topics, Hayashi underscored Peru as an important economic partner. He was also optimistic that both countries collaborate on international agenda topics.

Lastly, he expressed Japan’s commitment to continue cooperating with Peru to promote its sustainable development through assistance following the damage caused by torrential rains, which have been registered since last January, as well as the Japanese aid provided to Venezuelan refugees in Peru. — NNN-ANDINA
