Large Haul Of Narcotic Drugs Seized In Myanmar’s Northernmost State

YANGON, Myanmar, April 24 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar authorities seized a large amount of narcotic drugs in townships of northern Kachin state, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse today (Wednesday).

The seizure was made on Monday by the township police force, in Shwegu and Hpakant townships, respectively.

A total of 77,000 stimulant tablets worth 231 million kyats (154,000 U.S. dollars) were confiscated in a basket, loaded on a motorbike, when a woman riding the motorbike was intercepted on Moesit-Latesin Kyauk Chaw road, in Shwegu township on Monday morning.

Also, 70 stimulant tablets worth 210,000 kyats (140 U.S. dollars) and 6.8 grams of heroin worth over 549,000 kyats (366 U.S. dollars) were seized from a bag, carried by a man in Hpakant township.

The two suspects were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.– NNN-MNA
