ATHENS, April 23 (NNN-PRESNA LATINA) – Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will participate in the Forum of the Strip and the Road to International Cooperation during his visit to China later this week, it was announced Monday.

The head of government is also expected to meet with senior officials of the Asian nation and explore prospects for economic cooperation in the context of close relations between the two countries, according to the Greek newspaper Ekathimerini.

The Forum will be held from Thursday until Sunday and China considers it the most important international event of 2019.

Almost five thousand representatives from 150 countries and 90 global organizations, plus four thousand national and foreign journalists will be in Beijing for the event, according to organizers of the event.

The initiative of the Belt and Road was presented in 2013 with the purpose of linking China with other continents through a network of maritime and terrestrial infrastructures that allow commercial operations, responsibilities and shared profits.

Greece has just become a member of the 16 + 1 Group (Central and Eastern European countries, as well as China) in a trade meeting held in Croatia.

The inclusion in the initiative will add value to the Greek economy and boost the credentials of the country as a regional center, according to the Hellenic Government.
