Malaysia Appoints New Reps To UN, Asean

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Feb 14 (NNN-Bernama) — The Malaysian government has appointed  its top diplomat Dr Ahmad Faisal Muhamad as the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, the United States.

The former High Commissioner to New Zealand Nur Izzah Wong Mee Choo has been appointed as Permanent Representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said the country’s Foreign Minister Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir presented the letters of credentials to both ambassadors at the ministry.

Prior to this appointment, Ahmad Faisal had served as Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland since 2019. 

He was also the country’s ambassador to Myanmar from 2011 to 2014, and had also served at diplomatic missions of Malaysia in Singapore and Moscow, Russia. 

Meanwhile, Nur Izzah had also served at the Embassy of Malaysia in Beijing, China.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she had served as Undersecretary of Inspectorate Division, and was assigned to the Department of Multilateral Affairs, East and South Asia Division, Information Division and ASEAN Division.
