Iraqi President Urges Stronger Ties With Britain

BAGHDAD, Iraq, April 16 (NNN-NINA) – Iraqi President, Barham Salih, called for expanding relations with Britain in various fields, according to a statement released by the president’s office.

Salih made the comments during a meeting with British Secretary of State for International Trade, Liam Fox, and his accompanying delegation at the presidential palace, in Baghdad’s Green Zone.

Salih and Fox reviewed bilateral relations in trade and economy, lauding Britain’s support for Iraq, in its fight against terrorism.

Fox renewed his country’s support for Iraq in different areas, confirming Britain’s endeavours to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, the statement read.

Britain is part of the international coalition, led by the United States, that has carried out air strikes against the Daesh militants in Iraq and Syria, and provided military equipment and training for the Iraqi forces.– NNN-NINA
