Malaysia’s new Cabinet sworn in before King today

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia’s two deputy prime ministers and 25 members of Cabinet were sworn in before the King Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara (national palace) here Saturday.

Also present at the presentation of Instruments of Appointment and the taking of the Oath of Office, Loyalty and Secrecy to the new Cabinet line-up was Queen Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as well as Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Royal Malaysian Air Force chief General Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan were also in attendance.

After being sworn in, the new Cabinet line-up then signed the official appointment documents, which were then attested by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali.

The appointment of the deputy prime ministers and all ministers was announced Friday by Anwar who also took the portfolio of Finance Minister.

The cabinet representation consisted of the members from the parties that made up the unity government including the biggest blocks after Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) – Barisan Nasional (BN) and the GPS from Sarawak.

BN chairman Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Fadillah Yusof of GPS are the two deputy prime ministers in Anwar’s cabinet.

The new Cabinet will hold a special meeting in Putrajaya on Monday.

Anwar, 75, was named Malaysia’s 10th prime minister by the Malaysian King after five days of political impasse over a hung Parliament that resulted from the 15th General Election on Nov 19.
