Hydrogen Power System Put On Trial Use In Australia’s Heritage Cottage

SYDNEY, Dec 1 (NNN-AAP) – The Australian state of New South Wales (NSW), started an 18-month trial of hydrogen power, in a national park heritage cottage.

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment, said in a statement today that, the cottage is the first in Australia to switch to a green hydrogen stand-alone power system.

The trial, launched by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), and a local energy company, would also determine if it could be a future renewable energy solution for remote regions across the state.

Cutlers Cottage, located in the Myall Lakes National Park, in the north of Sydney, was built in 1910, for raising pigs and cattle and growing vegetables. It now has turned into a holiday accommodation for visitors.

According to the statement, Cutlers Cottage’s new system, delivers energy like any other rooftop solar system, and stores power as hydrogen for conversion into electricity at night, or when loads are high, which largely eliminates the need for backup diesel generators.

The installation is also part of the effort to facilitate the state government’s zero-emission targets in 2050.

“A key pillar of our plan is embracing new energy technologies, to deliver low-impact visitor experiences and preserve the natural environment,” said Atticus Fleming, coordinator-general of the Environment and Heritage Group, at NSW Department of Planning and Environment.– NNN-AAP
