Forming Extreme Right-Wing Israeli Government Would Escalate Tensions In West Bank: Palestinian PM

RAMALLAH, Nov 29 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestinian Prime Minister, Mohammed Ishtaye, warned that, the formation of an extreme right-wing government in Israel, would threaten to escalate tensions in the West Bank.

“The next Israeli government will work to form a militia of settlers, under the protection of the Israeli army, which will further escalate the already tense situation in the West Bank,” he said, at the weekly meeting of the Palestinian Cabinet, according to an official statement.

He also warned that, the next Israeli government would give everything Israeli settlers want and protect them legally, materially and politically, adding that, all settlements are “illegal and illegitimate under international law.”

Israeli Prime Minister-designate, Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party and far-right Noam party, signed a coalition deal on Sunday, moving Netanyahu one step closer to forming what is expected to be the most right-wing government in Israeli history.

It was the Likud party’s second coalition agreement, after Netanyahu was mandated to build a new coalition government in mid-Nov.

Over the weekend, the Likud said in a statement that, it had signed a deal with Itamar Ben-Gvir, leader of Israel’s far-right Jewish Power party, who is set to be appointed to the newly created role of national security minister, in the upcoming government.– NNN-WAFA
