S.Korea’s Auto Export, Local Sale, Production Kept Rising For Three  Months

SEOUL, Nov 11 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea’s automotive export, local sale and production kept rising for three straight months, due to robust demand for eco-friendly vehicles, government data showed, today.

Car shipment surged 28.5 percent from a year earlier, to 4.92 billion U.S. dollars in Oct, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The number of exported vehicles was 208,544 in Oct, up 30.2 percent from a year earlier.

Export for eco-friendly vehicles spiked 27.1 percent, to 1.45 billion dollars last month, topping one billion dollars for the 14th consecutive month.

Demand for locally-made vehicles from North America soared 60.2 percent, to 2.38 billion dollars in Oct, while shipment to the European Union (EU) member countries, increased 12.4 percent to 743 million dollars.

Automotive sales in the local market gained 15.2 percent from a year earlier, to 144,363 units in Oct, keeping an upward momentum for the third straight month.

The number of cars manufactured in local factories advanced 24.2 percent to 327,486 in Oct, continuing to rise for the sixth successive month.– NNN-YONHAP
