Le Tour de Langkawi 2022: second stage win by Molano cancelled

SHAH ALAM (Malaysia), Oct 13 (NNN-Bernama) — The victory of UAE Team Emirates rider Juan Sebastian Molano in the second stage of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2022 on Wednesday was cancelled.

According to a statement on the official LTdL Twitter site, the Colombian rider’s title was revoked after he was found to have committed an ‘irregular’ sprint offence while approaching the 300 metre finish line at Dataran Raub in Malaysia’s eastern state of Pahang.

The result saw the second stage champion title covering a distance of 178.9 kilometres going to ARA Pro Racing Sunshine Coast rider, Craig Wiggins while Gleb Syritsa (Astana Qazaqstan Team) was in second place while Jakub Mareczko (Alpecin-Deceuninck) was third.

“Juan Sebastian Molano was disqualified because the sprint was not according to the path.

“The winner of Stage 2 is now Craig Wiggins of Australia (ARA Sunshine Coast),” according to the statement.

Molano dropped to 109th for the second stage of the race alongside the last group of riders to reach the finish line.

However, he is allowed to continue racing as usual after his name is on the list of the third stage race from Putrajaya to Genting Highlands, Thursday.
