Afghan Health Ministry Launched Anti-Polio Vaccination Campaign

KABUL, Sept 20 (NNN-ANA) – The Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan’s Taliban-run caretaker government, initiated a nationwide four-day vaccination campaign against polio, yesterday.

“The four-day vaccination campaign covers 9.9 million children, under five years old, in the country’s 34 provinces,” the ministry said in a statement.

Aimed at eradicating the crippling disease in the country, the immunisation campaign has been supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the past several years.

So far this year two polio cases have been detected in Afghanistan.– NNN-ANA
