EIB strengthens engagement in Southeast Asia and Pacific Region

JAKARTA, Sept 10 (NNN-Bernama) — European Investment Bank (EIB) has opened its Southeast Asia and the Pacific regional representation office here to speed up financial support for high-impact investment.

According to the bank, it will prioritise financing for Southeast Asia’s €2.6 billion worth of projects in the pipeline such as climate action, urban transport, healthcare, energy security and sustainable projects.

“In Indonesia alone we’re ready to invest up to €1 billion in projects each year,” EIB vice-president Kris Peeters, who is in charge of bank operations in Southeast Asia, said in a statement today.

EIB has invested €625 million in energy, urban transport, climate action, rural infrastructure, urban development and transport projects in Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines so far.

EIB Jakarta office follows the decision of the EIB’s shareholders – the 27 European Union member states – to strengthen the bank’s international presence.
