Six Dead From House Fire In Jakarta

JAKARTA, Aug 18 (NNN-ANTARA) – Six tenants died, after allegedly being trapped in a fire, at a rooming four-story house, in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, yesterday, local authorities reported.

Three other tenants were also injured in the incident that started at around 6:30 a.m. local time (2330 GMT on Tuesday), in the densely-populated residential area of Duri Selatan, in Tambora sub-district.

It took firefighters about an hour to bring the fire under control.

Tambora Police Chief, Rosana Albertina Labobar, told local media that, personnel were currently identifying the dead at a police hospital in the city. Meanwhile, those injured were still under medical treatment, she added.

The sub-district’s fire and rescue agency chief, Joko Susilo, said that, the agency received a fire report minutes after the fire broke out and immediately deployed more than 20 fire trucks to the location, with more than 100 personnel.

“We suspect the fire was triggered by a short circuit that occurred in one of the tenant rooms, on the second floor,” he said.– NNN-ANTARA
