NEW DELHI, June 22 (NNN-Bernama) — Pakistan, facing growing power cuts, has signed an agreement with an Iranian company to import 100 megawatt of electricity for its Balochistan province.

The deal was signed on Tuesday between Iran’s Power Generation, Distribution and Transmission Company, known as Tavanir, and Pakistan’s National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), the Pakistan Ministry of Energy said in a tweet.

It will be implemented “in the shortest possible time to provide immediate relief to the people of Balochistan,” the ministry said.

The agreement was signed during Pakistan Power Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan’s visit to Iran.

Khurram Dastgir earlier held talks with Iran’s Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian to explore areas of energy cooperation.

“Both long-term and short-term energy plans were discussed,” Pakistan’s Energy Ministry said.

The Pakistani minister also visited the offices of Iranian power and infrastructure group Mapna and met its chairman Abbas Ali Abadi.
