Malaysia’s Manufacturing Sales Up 13.2 Percent In Apr

KUALA LUMPUR, Jun 11 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s manufacturing sales value in Apr, grew 13.2 percent to 147.9 billion ringgit (about 33.61 billion U.S. dollars) from a year ago, official data showed yesterday.

The sales value increased by 2.3 percent as against the previous month, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said, in a statement.

According to the DOSM, the growth in sales value for Apr was driven by the electrical and electronics products subsector, which surged 21.9 percent, underpinned by the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products industries.

The expansion was also attributed to the food, beverages and tobacco products subsector, that rose 14.9 percent, supported by the manufacture of food products industries.

Petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products subsector also climbed 6.7 percent, driven mainly by the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products industries.

Meanwhile, sales value for export-oriented industries, which accounted for 72.4 percent of the total sales value, rose 14.5 percent.

For the period Jan to Apr, the sales value of the manufacturing sector expanded 12.9 percent to 563.2 billion ringgit as compared to the same period in 2021.– NNN-BERNAMA
