American navy ship arrives in Kuching for Pacific Partnership Exercise

KUCHING, Malaysia, March 28 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The United States Navy expeditionary fast transport ship USNS Fall River arrived at the Kuching Port here today to participate in a two-week joint exercise with the Malaysian Armed Forces.

The exercise under the Pacific Partnership Exercise is an annual event undertaken by the US Navy’s Pacific Fleet together with regional governments and military forces towards improved interoperability between military forces, governments, and humanitarian organisations in the events of disasters and also towards stronger security ties between the nations.

The arrival of the ship commanded by Captain Brendon Zilko at 9 am Thursday, was greeted by Malaysian Armed Forces 1st Infantry Division chief of staff, Colonel Nadzri Che Lah, Ex-PP19 director Colonel Dr Mohamed Zaki Mohamed Mokhtar and MAF joint-force HQ J7 (Exercises) director Col Zulfakar Abdul Wahid.

The exercise which is centred on humanitarian aid and disaster relief will see the ship’s crew involved in civil engineering projects as well as medical and dental civic action project for the next two weeks.
