Ukraine’s Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity ‘must Be Respected’, Says Singapore

SINGAPORE, Feb 22 (NNN-Bernama) — Singapore is gravely concerned at the escalation of tensions at the Ukraine-Russia border and the Russian decision to recognise two breakaway Ukrainian regions, according to the republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected,” the ministry’s spokesperson said in a statement here.

The spokesperson said all parties concerned should continue to pursue dialogue, including diplomatic means, towards a peaceful settlement of the dispute, in accordance with international law, and avoid action that will further raise tensions in the region.

It was reported that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin had on Monday signed two decrees recognising Ukraine’s breakaway regions “the Lugansk People’s Republic” and “the Donetsk People’s Republic” as independent and sovereign states.
