6.4-Magnitude Quake Strikes Off Japan’s Oita Prefecture, No Tsunami Warning Issued

TOKYO, Jan 22 (NNN-NHK) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4, early this morning struck, off Japan’s Oita Prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The temblor occurred at around 1:08 a.m. local time, at the Hyuganada seaside area, and at the depth of 40 km.

The quake logged five upper in some parts of Oita prefecture, on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at seven.

The local police reported about 15 seconds of shake, during the earthquake, and are now confirming the situation of damage.

So far, no tsunami warning has been issued.– NNN-NHK
