Iranian Community In Malaysia Contribute Relief Items For Flood Victims

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 (NNN-Bernama) — In solidarity with the Malaysian flood victims, the Iranian community in Malaysia have come together to contribute relief supplies to help alleviate their burden.

The donation, consisting of hygiene kits, clothes and foods, were handed over by the Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Ali Asghar Mohammadi to the President of Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (Mapim), Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid at the embassy on Friday.

Mohammadi said the Iranian community will continue to assist their Malaysian brothers and sisters during this challenging time.

“These supplies they collected based on the needs published in the news, it’s an expression of feelings in solidarity with the victims. This is only the beginning,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Azmi said some of the relief supplies will be distributed directly to the flood victims in the state of Selangor, and the remaining items will be channelled to its non-governmental organisation (NGO) partners in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

“We really need hygiene kits especially for the children and we appreciate the Iranian community’s contributions for the flood victims,” he said.

Torrential rains in Malaysia have caused flooding and landslides in several states, claiming almost 50 lives so far, with another five still reported missing. The fatality number is the highest in the history of flood disasters in Malaysia.
